Lynk & Co Unveils Sustainability Insights with First-Ever Life Cycle Assessment
Mobility disruptor Lynk & Co has commissioned IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute to perform a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of their flagship plug-in hybrid car, the 01. This important step in Lynk & Co’s sustainability journey provides transparent information on the 01’s sustainability performance. The study identifies hotspots where action to reduce climate impact matters the most, enabling customers to adopt more sustainable habits. The comprehensive study assesses the carbon footprint of the 01 throughout its entire life cycle, encompassing everything from production, logistics, use phase and end-of-life management. Based on LCA standards, the assessment highlights the importance of use-phase emissions, consumer choices and the use of recycled materials for a reduced environmental impact.
At Lynk & Co, we’re committed to transparency and responsibility in our sustainability journey. The insights gained by our Life Cycle Assessment will empower us to make the right choices to contribute to a more sustainable future in the automotive industry.
— Alain Visser , CEO of Lynk & Co The Influence of Charging HabitsCharging habits have a crucial influence on the 01’s footprint. If the car isn’t charged or is charged using electricity from coal power, the use phase contributes to roughly 70% of the whole life cycle’s impact. Charging with the European grid mix can reduce the use-phase impact significantly, with an estimated 35 tons of CO2e emissions for the car’s entire life cycle – against 59 tons of CO2e emissions for cars that use petrol and electricity from coal power.
Recycled Materials Continue to be KeyMaterial production plays an essential role in the car’s footprint. Increasing the use of recycled materials across the production process, such as aluminum, steel, and plastic can save a significant amount of energy and reduce the environmental impact. The increased use of these more sustainable and recycled materials is a core pillar of how we continue to support the building of a better future for mobility.
Car Sharing for a Reduced ImpactCar sharing contributes to decreasing demand for more cars. As consumers are more open to own less and share more, Lynk & Co has found that sharing cars half of the time and charging with electricity from wind power has the potential to lower emissions by over 70% compared to driving on petrol and not sharing cars at all.

]]>Mobility company Lynk & Co takes a holistic approach to sustainability
Lynk & Co releases 2022 Sustainability Report
Lynk & Co’s 2022 Sustainability Report just came out. And while we know that, as a mobility service provider, we are part of the problem, we are taking bold steps to reach our sustainability targets. From our 01 plug-in hybrid’s life cycle to ethical business, from CO2e emissions to gender diversity, from car utilization to inspiring sustainable lifestyles, Lynk & Co approaches things holistically. Explanations.
Global problems, holistic solutions
We built our sustainability strategy on three pillars: sustainable mobility, climate action and better business. While transitioning to electric vehicles is a key step, we have a bigger picture in mind. One that includes the full life cycle of the car. By increasing car utilization through sharing, we can reduce the need for individual cars and free up space in our cities for greener, welcoming urban landscapes. And mobility is just one part of the sustainable lifestyles we aim to inspire, all while taking care of our partners, teams, and members.
Towards sustainable mobility… and lifestyles
Car use and car sharing are at the core of sustainable mobility. The use of our car sharing platform increased significantly between 2021 and 2022, even though it is still in beta version – things are looking encouraging for the future. But we also believe in mobility inclusion: that’s why we launched Driving Change, an initiative to help people with fewer opportunities get a driver’s license. At our Clubs – Lynk & Co’s alternative to traditional dealerships – we showcase the 01, but we also offer a carefully curated selection of sustainable, inspiring products by independent partner brands, with the aim of sparking sustainable behaviors beyond mobility. Upcycled clothing or sustainable luggage, anyone?
Fighting for the climate
Tailpipe emissions are an important part of the car industry’s climate impact. We only offer electrified vehicles – stay tuned for our first fully electric model in 2024! However, that’s not enough to call yourself sustainable: production and utilization emissions have to be tackled as well. This includes our value and supply chains as well as our operations. In 2022, we transitioned to 100% renewable electricity in our car manufacturing plant in Yuyao, China, saving 14,000 tons of CO2e emissions. We are working on increasing the part of recycled materials in the car, as well as on our first ever Life Cycle Analysis for the 01. All these actions support one of our key goals: reaching net-zero emissions by 2040.
A better way to business
Our way towards open, responsible business starts at home, with a strong Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy. We are making progress from gender balance to gender diversity to better including our team members who identify beyond the gender binary. And it doesn’t stop there: we work at closing pay gaps within our workforce, and we have invested in outside resources to ensure that all our employees, in all our markets, have access to the support they might need.
In the words of Alain Visser, Lynk & Co CEO and founder:
“Sustainability is at the core of our company. We don’t just want electrified cars – we want new behaviors, sustainable mindsets, inclusion, and a better urban space for all.”
A long road lies ahead – what’s next?
In 2023, we will focus on strengthening both our car sharing platform and our gender diversity. In 2024, our first fully electric car will be introduced the market, leading the way to offering 100% fully electric cars in the future. 2025 is our big year for renewable energy, with a goal of 25% for tier 1 suppliers and 100% for battery production.

Lynk & Co’s out-of-this-world headquarters is designed to inspire Mobility brand Lynk & Co aims to be all but traditional. Pass by its head office in Gothenburg, Sweden, and you’ll see why. With bold, weird, and madly inspired interior spaces it’s designed to get the creative juices flowing.
As the rude rebel of the automotive industry, Lynk & Co sets out to do things … differently. The head office in Gothenburg, Sweden, is no exception. When entering the brutalist headquarters, you’re immediately struck by the out-of-this-world aesthetics. The crude concrete floor, the dotted centerpiece sofa, the giant smiley face that bursts through the wall. And in the far back – the 01 car. It’s a creative mix of the raw and the elaborate, with a constant element of surprise.
Lynk & Co is here to disrupt the automotive industry, not to align with it. Having a boring office is out of the question. It needs to be wow! If we don’t live and work in a non-conformist fashion, then we’re not truthful to the brand. It’s all about honesty and authenticity. We must stay true to the vision, and it must permeate everything from the offer to the office. I think our design team has outdone themselves.
Alain Visser, CEO Lynk & Co Wrong in just the right way“Urban traces” has been a mantra for Lynk & Co’s design team and the Gothenburg Local New Order Arkitektur when choosing sustainable materials, picking out the re-used office furniture and creating the interior. The spaces were designed to feel lived-in. As if they already had a history. And in a sense, they do.
When putting up the concrete walls the team told the craftsmen to leave their measurements and scribbles on the walls and stop before they were done. Looking at the walls now, they still bare traces of the design process. And that’s the point. Doing things differently to inspire the creative minds that work there.
When picking out the floor for the building, we really got on the contractor's nerves. Whichever floor they showed us, it was too neat. Too nice-looking. We wanted raw. And when they took us to a warehouse to show what a botched concrete floor looked like, we fell in love. For them it was wrong. For us, it was wrong in just the right way.
Alain Visser, CEO Lynk & CoThe interior space is designed by Lynk & Co’s own design team and New Order Arkitektur, and the art is made by the Swedish artist EKTA. It was recently awarded Gold for Best Interior Design at the Architecture Collection awards.

2022 was a breakthrough year for mobility company Lynk & Co. If 2021 was the year we introduced our game-changing mobility offer, 2022 was the year we caught the public’s attention and boosted our community base.
The Lynk & Co community gained a massive influx of new users in 2022. In fact, 200% more users joined Lynk & Co last year, growing from 60,000 to over 170,000 members across seven markets; Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Belgium.
Challenging the automotive industry with radical simplicity
Lynk & Co is not your typical car company. We offer a monthly subscription to the Lynk & Co 01 hybrid car. Maintenance, insurance, and taxes are all included in the fixed price. And yes, the 01 can be shared with other users, reducing the monthly fee, allowing more people to have access to flexible mobility. Since day one, the aim is not to sell more cars but to make better use of fewer vehicles. 2022 was the year we launched and started trying out car sharing in every single one of our seven European markets.
“2022 revealed that Lynk & Co is a force to be reckoned with. With our all-inclusive car subscription, we hope to bring radical simplicity, sustainability solutions and flexibility to the automotive industry. We are making steps in the right direction and are grateful for the thousands of members that choose Lynk & Co.”
Alain Visser, CEO of Lynk & CoTaking sustainable steps from start-up to scale-up
Our membership base is not the only thing that grew in 2022. Lynk & Co’s workforce more than doubled in size, with 340 employees from all over the world joining the team. Bringing the total employee headcount to almost 800. Lynk & Co’s workforce also consists of 45% women, a notably more balanced ratio than the industry average1. We are dedicated to creating a more fair, progressive, and sustainable society. We use 100% renewable electricity in our seven offices and in all our Clubs and are shifting towards renewable electricity across our chain of operations.
We also work to lower our cars’ lifecycle footprint, increase the share of sustainable materials and establish car sharing as the new normal... Our aim is to go further than product development and electrification by shifting traditional business models and behaviors. Enabling shared, sustainable mobility.
Experiential retail in new cities
Instead of traditional car dealerships or showrooms, we chose Clubs. Our ten (and counting) Clubs in Europe are welcoming spaces, open to the public. You can, of course, enquire about the 01 and do a test drive from there, but you can also flex-work in the unique meeting rooms, enjoy a cup of coffee, attend regular free inspiring events, or shop for items from sustainable brands – our ‘gear’ partners. This year, our Club staff welcomed over 10,240 people for test drives with the 01 and hosted dozens of activities and events.
We opened three new Clubs in 2022: adding Rome, Barcelona, and Milan alongside the already established Clubs in Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Antwerp, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin. In 2023, we look forward to opening new locations in France, Spain and Germany.

November 26 is Lynk & Co Milan Club opening day
This is it!
The Milan Club is ready to welcome all Lynk & Co enthusiasts: automotive lovers, sustainability trend seekers, and anyone looking for a space to get together and exchange ideas. Sound like you? The date to circle on your calendar is 26 November, starting at 10:00 am in Corso Venezia 6.
Designed to stand out
What’s so peculiar about this Club? It’s apparent from the moment you enter and are immediately tangled around neon lights that swirl around a pillar. A must-visit – even if not out of necessity – is the Candy Shop Toilet, where you'll be surrounded by white, pink and, yes, lots of lollipops. Beyond the bathrooms, you'll find Lynk & Co's signature pieces: the yellow couch, metal bar, 3D armchairs, and lighting from local Italian brand Seletti. And, of course, there’s the Lynk & Co 01. The car is placed under a historic skylight, ready to be photographed amongst fabric pillars. If you have any questions, we suggest that you pay a visit in the Tarot Room: you may not find the answer you are looking for, but at least you’ll be surrounded by a dreamlike atmosphere made of reclaimed and reused wood and furniture. Everything in the Club was created in collaboration with the Gothenburg-based design studio New Order Arkitektur.
Yes, we are getting carried away
After Rome, Milan is our second Club in Italy. The Italian market has been intrigued by Lynk & Co’s mobility concept since the beginning and remains one of our most active markets. The Lynk & Co 01 has zoomed across the length of the boot, with interest growing in all regions of Italy. As a result, 20 percent of Lynk & Co subscribers hail from Italy, the second largest market in Europe. The reasons why they chose us? Italian subscribers are particularly interested in flexibility, more sustainable mobility, the 01’s digital features, and the design of the car. After all, have you seen the Lynk & Co 01?
Cars, events, and much more
Lynk & Co's presence in Milan is not limited to the 01 alone: we’re involving more and more people to have a positive effect on the community. Oh, and we’re having some fun while we’re at it. The Club is not just the place to see the 01 up close, but a place where projects, shows, and workshops engage the community.
In the words of Alain Visser, CEO Lynk & Co:
We really looked forward for the opening our Club in Milan. Being present in this city means to be part of a vibrant beauty that is innovating every day. Milan’s community pulses with ideas, and with our Club, we want to create space to not only to change mobility but also impact people’s lifestyles. It’s important that we’re having fun while driving toward a more sustainable future.
Alain Visser, CEO of Lynk & Co
Sustainable and amazing products
We’ve included incredible products with a little something extra in our Milan Club: sustainability as a creative engine. In addition to statement pieces like lamps made from orange peels, you can also find truly unique upcycled fashion brands thanks to a collaboration with Revibe. If you’ve been following along with Lynk & Co’s journey, you know that in 2022 we’ve switched to 100 percent renewable electricity in all our operations: from Clubs to offices. Even our car manufacturing plant is now powered by a 20 million kWh solar panel system.
